Yankees' Ace Injured, Out for Two Months

 Tuesday, April 13th, 1954

The New York Yankees learned that Mark St. Croix is likely to be out for 8 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Washington Senators. A round of tests by the team doctor revealed the injury to be a strained hamstring. Upon hearing the diagnosis, the New York manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Mark is back in action."

Pedersen goes 3-for-3 in Cardinals Win
The 1954 season is off to a good start for the St. Louis Cardinals. The hometown Cardinals knocked off the Chicago Cubs, 22-6, at Sportsman's Park IV. St. Louis right fielder Sean Pedersen paced his team to the win.

With one out in the bottom of the second, Jaden Thompson stroked a go-ahead bases-clearing triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put St. Louis in front, 6-3.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Pedersen told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
