|GAME ID: 42 - SATURDAY, APRIL 22ND, 1939 - GAME LOG|
In a seemingly effortless performance, Larry French of the Chicago Cubs shot down the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 on a 4-hit shutout.
"Larry was just locating so well and using his pitches," Chicago manager Gabby Hartnett said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate." French recorded 1 strikeout and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," St. Louis manager Ray Blades said in his postgame comments to Retro Baseball. "We couldn't get a key hit off him."
