1964 Season Replay: Marichal Dominant on Opening Day

This is a 1964 San Francisco Giants Season Replay using Out of the Park Baseball. More details on this project can be found on our About Retro Baseball Page,

April 14, 1964

The San Francisco Giants started the 1964 season win an impressive 3-1 win against the Milwaukee Braves. Juan Marichal, who is a two-time All-Star, was named player of the game. The San Francisco dugout showed signs of unrest at times. But the Giants put this one in the win column with some good pitching and some timely hitting at critical moments. The Giants and Braves will square off again tomorrow as Gaylord Perry will take the hill for the Giants and Denny Lemaster will get the ball for the Braves.

Over in the American League, Whitey Ford of the Yankees beat the Red Sox earning the 200th win of his career. Ford is now 200-78 for his career with an ERA of 2.78. Dean Chance of the Angels shut out the Senators 6-0. Chance is just 22 years old.
