Giants Picked to Finish 6th in NL

April 11, 1960

The season is a week away and the baseball experts have weighed in on the upcoming 1960 season. Their opinion on the Giants is not a good one as they have them finishing 6th in the eight team National League.

"I don't agree with it, I can tell you that" said Giants Manager Red Fisher.

The Cincinnati Reds are the clear favorites in the NL led by MVP favorite Jesse Jones who will be patrolling centerfield for the Reds this year.

"The Reds have a great team but I think we have the best pitching in baseball. Our rotation is really good and we have several great options out of the bullpen" said Fisher in defense of his team.

The Giants offense appears to be the issue. While the team should have power there is a lot of questions on how often they will be on base and the potential high number of strikeouts.

The New York Yankees were picked to win the American League.

The Giants open their season a week from today in St. Louis facing a Cardinal team who was picked to finish last in the National League. The Giants will play a brief two game series with the Cardinals and then travel to Cincinnati for a three game set where they will get to see first hand the favorites in the NL. The Giants will open their home season two weeks from today against the Dodgers.
