Dodgers' Abramowitz Named Top Prospect, Giants Have Top System

 Februay 1, 1954

All eyes are on the kid at Dodger camp this week. The kid is Billy Abramowitz and he is the top prospect in all of baseball. Abramowitz is just 23 years old but according to the Dodgers they expect him to be the starting shortstop on Opening Day and he might even lead off.

"We don't do that service time manipulation crap that other teams do. The best players are going to play from day one and this kid is going to win us some ball games this year" said a Dodgers executive.

Abramowitz can do it all defensively. He can play second base, third base and even some outfield but it appears shortstop will be his position at least for now.

Five tool player? It depends on who you ask but one thing is for sure he is a guy who can get on base and create havoc on the basepaths. Power? That is the big question. Some scouts think that is going to come in time but his eye, glove and arm are already approaching elite levels. If he is as polished as some think, the Dodgers could surprise some folks in the NL Pennant race.

The Dodgers might have the top prospect but it is their rivals across town that have the top minor league system. The Giants have five guys in their system ranked in the Top 35 led by catcher Bobby Labit who is the 4th rated prospect in all of baseball.
